MUNROE HOLDS ONTO BELT

Rendall Munroe was given a tough workout but successfully defended his European super-bantamweight title for a second time with a unanimous points victory against Armenian Arsen Martirosian.
The 28-year-old Leicester southpaw struggled to find his rhythm in the early rounds against a determined opponent at the Harvey Hadden Leisure Centre in Nottingham.
Munroe eventually began to exert his authority in the fifth round and seemed to have Martirosian in real trouble in the seventh with a series of body shots and combination punches.
Martirosian somehow hung on in the eighth as Munroe significantly upped his workrate and landed 35 punches compared to the three from the the stocky France-based Armenian.
Munroe consistently landed punches in the remaining four rounds but failed to find the telling blow and the unknown Martirosian somehow managed to last the distance.
The result of the fight was never in doubt, which was reflected by the judges' unanimous points decision, but Munroe admitted it was difficult to prepare for an opponent he knew very little about
