On the eve of the first MSU home game, Spartan fans are preparing for the start of a very different, more unofficial sport - tailgating.
Whether you're an old pro or a first-timer, here's everything you need to know to survive tailgating, Spartan style.
Getting an early start
For Erin Belt, the early bird catches the worm.
'I get up really early, around 7 (a.m.),' said the 20-year-old advertising senior from Holt. 'I hang out at (my) house and eat chips and dip before heading to campus.'
Belt said she tailgates at the tennis courts because it is less expensive than parking at Spartan Stadium, and just as fun.
Jackie Hochstetler said she enjoys going around off campus on game days.
'I always hang out in the neighborhood,' said the 21-year-old marketing senior from Gaylord. 'We play corn hole and drink beer.'
Armed and ready
It's not just students who are gearing up for the season. If MSU-tailgate-themed displays in stores like L No couches or upholstered furniture.
No kegs or other common-source containers.
No drinking game structures and/or paraphernalia.
No trailers of any type including pig roasters.
Oversized trucks must park in RV parking.
Trash shall be disposed of in available receptacles.
No tents larger than 10 feet by 10 feet.
